Collections

Fund raising is all about collections. It should also be fun.

Sometimes Stormy Stan RNLI pops in to give a hand.

A great success amongst the children and adults alike.

    The traditional
collecting boxes are dispersed around the
country, and looked after by their respective Branches or
Guilds. There are three types of box in regular use.

The first is a box that represents a stylised boat which is mounted on a red platform.

The second is a mechanical box, which appeals more to children but it has been noticed that adults also like this one.  On inserting the coin(s) they roll down a chute and fall to the bottom of the box, and in so doing rock, a modern replica of a Lifeboat, causing it to rock, with the three crew members on the boat.

The third type is similar to the first, except it is coloured orange or yellow, without a plinth and is for hand held collecting, at events such as Maldon's Victorian evenings,

There are two annual collections to be partaken in the Branches calendar, these are:

The
House to House collection.  This is organised by the branch.  It requires the largest number of participants, all should be reasonably fit.  There is usually a fair bit of walking to do, it certainly keeps you fit at least for one week in the year.  At this event the RNLI's now familiar emblems are handed out.

The
High Street collection.  This event takes place after the House to House collection. Again a large number of participants are required, should also be reasonably fit, and able to stand in the High Street without moving, for a couple of hours at a time.
